Description
Built in 1954, this 2,595-square-foot home sits in the Desert Palms Estates tract — the original name for what’s now known as Sunrise Park, one of central Palm Springs’ most concentrated pockets of Meiselman construction. At 4 bedrooms and 3.5 baths, it’s a notably large example for the neighborhood, which typically runs 1,250 to 2,899 square feet with 2 to 5 bedrooms. This one sits comfortably at the upper end of that range.
Based on the kitchen being on the pool side of the house with a view of the pool, this home appears to be based on a floor plan similar to that used by Alexander Construction. This was common for the early Jack Meisleman homes built in the 1950’s, shortly after he split with Alexander.
The primary suite picks up mountain views and steps straight out to the backyard, while two of the remaining bedrooms are set up as junior en-suites on opposite sides of the house — one facing the front gardens, the other opening onto its own private patio. A fourth bedroom, currently fitted with a Murphy bed, reads as a flexible space: office, media room, or guest quarters, depending on who’s living there. Vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, and a gas fireplace anchor the living areas, and tile flooring runs continuously through the interior, tying the rooms together without visual breaks.
Outside, the backyard is oriented southwest and backed by views of Mt. San Jacinto, with a gunite pool and spa, a covered lounge, a built-in barbecue, and a dedicated pool bath. That’s a fairly complete outdoor program for a 1954 build, and it points to a property that’s been maintained for active indoor-outdoor use over the decades rather than left to age as-is.
Later Updates: Some rooms in the home appear to have been upgraded over the years, while others seem a bit dated. Milgard windows have replaced the originals, and the listing references unspecified “system improvements” — worth asking the owner to itemize for the record, since that phrase could mean anything from electrical to HVAC.
Neighborhood
Sunrise Park began in the early 1950s as Desert Palms Estates, and it’s since become one of the clearest concentrations of Meiselman-built homes in Palm Springs, alongside work by the Alexander Construction Company and architects such as Donald Wexler, William Krisel, and Hugh Kaptur. The neighborhood sits centrally, between the airport and downtown, and its homes share a recognizable set of midcentury details — butterfly rooflines, clerestory windows, sculpted concrete block — even though architectural credit across the tract varies by builder and block.
Desert Palms Estates itself is the older name for this same footprint, and 2295 E Park Drive sits within that original tract boundary, placing it among the earliest wave of homes in what became Sunrise Park.
