Property Description

At 1,920 square feet on a 10,454-square-foot lot, this three-bedroom, three-bath property in Sunrise Park is one of the larger single-family homes in the Meiselman Registry. The year of original construction hasn’t been confirmed, but many Meiselman homes in the neighborhood were built between 1954 and 1960.

The home’s floor plan is different from other Meiselman homes in the neighborhood, so it’s not clear if it was part of Meiselman’s tract homes or a custom home, so its provenance still needs to be verified. However, its open layout, with floor-to-ceiling windows and glass doors, that pulls the San Jacinto Mountains’ backdrop directly into the interior, is classic Meiselman. That relationship between the glass wall and the mountain view is pure Desert Modernism thinking — Meiselman understood that the landscape wasn’t just scenery to be framed; it was the whole point of living in the desert. The indoor-outdoor connection extends to a private yard configured into multiple distinct outdoor zones, with the pool and spa as organizing anchors, along with an outdoor kitchen, outdoor seating area with TV and fireplace, and a covered dining area.

The home was renovated in 2019-2020. Polished concrete floors have replaced the original flooring throughout — what that original material was (terrazzo, tile, or otherwise) isn’t known. Milgard aluminum windows replace the original aluminum windows, and the plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems have all been updated. A 34-panel solar system was also added. The kitchen was reconfigured into a semi-open design, with new cabinetry and appliances. In addition, all three bathrooms were remodeled and upgraded. The garage received epoxy flooring, climate control, and workspace buildout. An outdoor kitchen was added to the rear grounds. This home underwent a complete reinvention of its interior and systems.

What Makes This Home Special

At 1,920 square feet, this is one of the largest single-family Meiselman homes documented in Sunrise Park. That’s a meaningful distinction. Meiselman’s single-family homes typically range from 1,200 to 1,800 square feet, so this one is at the high end of that range. The 10,454-square-foot, irregularly shaped lot on a cul-de-sac is unique, too, and unlike the 9,000- to 10,000-SF lots that were common in this area.

Neighborhood

Meiselman built over 16 homes in the Sunrise Park neighborhood between 1954 and 1960. Sunrise Park is filled with midcentury modern homes, bounded roughly by Alejo to the north, Sunrise to the west, and Farrell to the east, and represents a quieter residential enclave that developed alongside the more heavily documented Racquet Club corridor to the northwest. Its position offers direct sightlines to the San Jacinto Mountains to the west, which, as any Desert Modernism enthusiast knows, is not a coincidence. Meiselman consistently oriented his homes and developments to take advantage of that view.
